FAQ

What is drainage fabric?

Drainage fabric is a permeable (porous) geotextile fabric made from synthetic materials. Its main purpose is to facilitate the movement of water through soils or other materials while preventing soil particles from clogging the drainage system. It’s used for residential and commercial applications.

What is the best fabric for drainage ditch?

Though it will depend on the specific application and conditions present, in general look for a geotextile drainage fabric made of high quality material such as polypropylene or polyester. You’ll also want to make sure your fabric is highly permeable (check the flow rates or GPM per sq ft), as well as resistant to degradation from sunlight, chemicals, and other environmental factors.

Is drainage fabric the same as landscape fabric?

No, drainage fabric is designed to facilitate the movement of water through soils or other materials while being able to simultaneously prevent soil particles from clogging the drainage system. Landscape fabric is designed to promote the growth of plants. It does this by suppressing weed growth and allowing water and nutrients to pass through to the soil while blocking sunlight and air.

How long does drainage fabric last?

The lifespan of drainage fabric will depend on the specific application, environmental conditions, and quality of the fabric. In general, a high-quality drainage fabric can last up to 20-30 years or more. Sandbaggy Drainage Fabrics lasts 50+ years. However, exposure to sunlight, chemicals, and other environmental factors can cause degradation and reduce the lifespan of the fabric.
