FAQ
How Many Nails Per Box?
What nails should be used for roofing?
How deep should roofing nails go?
As a general rule of thumb, roofing nails must be at least 1-1/4 inches long and should penetrate into the roof deck at least 3/4 inch. This is important for proper installation of roof-overs to ensure a secure hold.
For roof decks thinner than 3/4 inch, nails should fully penetrate and extend a minimum of 1/8 inch through the deck. Because sheathing thickness varies, you may need longer nails depending on the decking used.
Should roofing nails be visible?
Roofing nails should typically remain hidden from view. They need to be inserted evenly with the shingle surface and overlapped by the following layer of shingles. Nevertheless, a few metal roofing systems may utilize visible fasteners as a component of their structure.
