To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your forms, always apply a generous amount of form oil before setting the forms in place. Skipping this crucial step can significantly reduce the durability and effectiveness of the forms over time.
Proper application of form oil not only helps in easy form removal, but also prevents material buildup and extends the life of your equipment. For best results, coat all contact surfaces thoroughly before each use.
Instructions For Using Sandbaggy's Symon-Style Form Panels
Here’s a step-by-step instruction list for how to use Sandbaggy Metal Concrete Form Panels for building walls and columns:
Tools & Materials Needed
- Sandbaggy metal form panels
- Stakes or form pins
- Walers (wood or metal horizontal supports)
- Form ties (snap ties or taper ties)
- Hammer or impact drill
- Level
- Concrete vibrator (optional)
- Release agent (oil or form spray)
Installation Instructions
-
Prepare the Base
- Excavate and level the ground where the wall or column will be poured.
- Ensure subgrade is compacted and flat.
- For walls: Set up a footing if required and let it cure before installing forms.
- Apply Form Release Agent: Spray or brush form release oil on the interior surface of the panels to prevent concrete from sticking.
-
Place Bottom Panels
- Position the first row of Sandbaggy panels at the base. Secure them using form stakes or pins.
- Use a level to ensure they are straight and aligned.
-
Install Vertical Rebar (if required)
- Insert and tie vertical rebar inside the form based on your structural requirements
- before the second row of panels.
-
Stack Additional Panels
- Stack panels vertically using their interlocking edge or connection brackets.
- Secure with panel clamps or bolts as required to prevent shifting.
-
Tie Forms Together
- Insert form ties (snap ties or taper ties) through the holes in the panels. These will hold both sides together during the concrete pour.
- Place ties every 18–24 inches vertically and 2–4 ft horizontally, depending on pour height.
-
Add Walers & Bracing
- Attach horizontal walers across the exterior to further stabilize the panels.
- Use diagonal bracing to prevent movement during concrete pour.
- Final Alignment: Double-check plumb and alignment before pouring. Adjust using braces.
-
Pour Concrete
- Slowly pour concrete into the form.
- Use a vibrator or tapping to remove air pockets.
- Do not overfill—maintain a steady pour level.
-
Let Concrete Cure
- Allow concrete to cure per spec (typically 24–48 hours minimum).
- Keep it covered or moist to prevent cracking if in hot weather.
-
Strip the Forms
- Carefully remove ties and pull off panels once concrete is hardened.
- Clean panels immediately for reuse.
