FAQ
How do you use garden paper?
Gardening paper is most commonly used as a weed barrier in garden beds or any other planting area. To install it all you need to do is place it over the surface and secure it with landscape staples (we recommend our circle top landscape pins). You can choose to place a layer of mulch or other organic material over the paper. Make sure you cut an opening for your tree to grow.
Does garden paper work?
Garden paper is a great solution to suppress weeds. It does this in two ways. One by blocking sunlight to the soil's surface, which prevents weed seeds from germinating and growing. Secondly, by retaining soil moisture, since weeds often thrive in drier soils.
Does landscape paper let water through?
Yes, most landscape papers allow water and air through (breathable and permeable), since they need to block sunlight yet allow for plant growth.
Do you need to put anything between your landscaping paper and mulch?
No, but placing compost, wood chips, or any other organic material can help to improve the health of the soil and provide more nutrients to the plants.
How long does the biodegradable tree mat last?
Biodegradable landscape fabrics, like our biodegradable tree mat, are not a permanent weed control solution. The lifespan depends on a variety of factors like weather, soil type, and quality of the paper. Most landscape paper products last at least one growing season and more durable ones can last 3+ years.
