FAQ

What's the difference between a self-drilling and a self-tapping screw?

While the terms are often used interchangeably, a self-drilling screw has a drill bit point that creates its own hole. A standard self-tapping screw only forms threads in a pre-drilled hole. Our screws do both: they drill the hole and tap the threads in one simple action.

Can I use these screws in wood?

These are not recommended for wood. The drill point is designed for metal and will not perform well in wood. Additionally, the fine threads provide less holding power in wood compared to a dedicated wood screw with coarse threads.

What other names does this product go by?

These screws are commonly known as self-drillers, hex head self-drilling screws, sheet metal screws, or HVAC screws.

What do I need to install this #10 self-drilling screw?

It's a self-drilling screw. All you need is a drill or impact driver with a 5/16" hex driver bit to drive it straight into sheet metal. It drills its own hole and fastens in one shot.
