Customer Review: Alan from Miller Creek, Arizona
My name is Alan. I live in Arizona, where we get lots of flash floods. I'm trying to beat the rush by getting some sandbags in and trying to build a barrier before the monsoon season.
As you can see, this looks like a pretty tame little stream, with no water in it now. But later on in the monsoon season, it can have too much water, which spills over into my yard and near my house.
So I bought sandbags, and I have been working with them. I am putting them between wire to try to protect me from the stream. My plan is to put more bags between the two layers, wire them together, and cover the whole thing with a little bit of dirt just for superficial protection, and build a semi-permanent flood barrier.
I've found these bags to be really great. I like the green color. I don't like the white color sandbags because the color sticks out too much in the landscape. The color of these green sandbags is very nice and fully blends in, especially when the green season gets here.
The sandbags are easy to work with. They seem to be tough, and I'm very pleased. I ordered 30 sandbags and then I ordered another 100. I'm in the process of filling these 100 sandbags. After that, I'll buy another few hundred and continue this wall down past where I'm at right now, all the way down the side of the property.
These Sandbaggy sandbags are really great. I appreciate them, and they're easy to work with.

How do you sandbag a house?
Sandbags Filling Tips
- Fill sandbags 1/2 to 2/3 full and tie the bag at the top with the included ties
- Lay flat when in place
- This sandbag should weigh between 35-40 lbs.
- An overfilled sandbag weighs between 60-75 lbs and will leave gaps which will allow water to seep through.
- Always wear gloves during the filling operation to avoid hand injuries and protect yourself from contaminants in sand and floodwater.
- Safety goggles should be used on dry and windy days.
- Filling sandbags is physically demanding work and can easily cause back and other injuries if not careful.
- Always lift with your legs and not your back.
- Do not reach out, bend over, or twist when lifting.
- Do not throw sandbags - it stresses the back and shoulders.
- Instead, use a brigade line to pass bags
- Use a short handled, #2 rounded point shovel with straight shaft and D grip, bagger scoop or funnel to fill sandbags.
- Remove any debris from the areas where the sandbags will be placed.
- After placing the sandbag, walk on the sandbags to create a tight seal between each bag.
- Sandbaggy polypropylene sandbags are built to hold either gravel or sand.
- Be aware of poor quality sandbags that rupture when filled with sharp gravel rocks.
- Gravel should be filled in sandbag when used as an erosion control device (on slopes).
- Sand should be filled for flood control needs, whether to protect doors or garage or to divert water.
- If sand or gravel is not accessible, less effective solutions is to fill the sandbags with backyard soil.
Do sandbags absorb water?
- The sand inside the bag can absorb a small amount of water, but the purpose of sandbags is to protect buildings from flooding by diverting flood water around them, rather than by absorbing the water.
- Along with sandbags, it is best to use plastic tarp sheets as well when building sandbag walls to create a better water-tight seal.
Can bullets penetrate sandbags?
- No, because the sand inside the bag cannot move out of the way fast enough to allow the bullet to penetrate through it.
- The bag keeps the sand trapped inside of it and prevents the energy of the moving bullet from causing the sand to fly everywhere.
- Instead, the force of the bullet is turned into heat, so the sand inside the bag will feel warm to the touch after a bullet is fired into it.
How long do sandbags last?
Because of their built-in UV protection, these woven polypropylene sandbags can sit outside for 3-6 months.
How do sandbags work? Are sandbags waterproof?
- Polypropylene sand bags are effective at stopping water because of the sand contained within the bag.
- The plastic in the bag itself, specifically polypropylene, is water permeable.
- This makes the polypropylene sand bags more versatile because putting gravel (rather than sand) in the bags allows them to stop sediment while allowing water to flow through.
- This is perfect for preventing trash or other sediment from entering storm drains, for instance.
- Our customers have found that the water permeability of the plastic allows water that gets in the sand to be released from the bag, so the sand doesn't stay soggy.
What do you fill sandbags with?
- Use sand to stop flooding.
- Use gravel to control erosion by stopping soil and other sediment and allowing water to pass through.

What are the dimensions of the sandbags when filled with 50 lbs of sand?
- The exact dimensions may vary.
- Our customers have found that the dimensions are roughly 17" long, 12" wide, and 5" deep.
- After filling, be sure to seal the bags shut with the included ties.
I enjoy camping and being outdoors. Can I use these to hold things down so they don't fly away, even in strong winds?
- For a canopy, tying four filled sandbags to each leg will surely keep the canopy in place.
- Filled sand bags (closed off with included ties) can also be used to hold chairs and umbrellas in place outdoors.
Here are some of the purposes for the different color of sandbags.
- Military-green sandbags = used to match the environment’s color
- Beige color sandbags = used to match the soil’s color
- Orange color sandbags = used when the sandbag needs to stand out (such as in safety situations)
- White color sandbags = used in all kinds of situations
What is the difference between 14" x 26" poly sandbags and 18" x 30" poly sandbags?
14" x 26" sandbags are available in four colors: white, green, beige, orange. 18" x 30" sandbags are only available in white.
When filled up, a 14" x 26" sandbag weighs 30-50 pounds while an 18" x 30" sandbag weighs 75-100 pounds. The 18" x 30" sandbag can fit 2-3 times more material in each bag compared with the 14" x 26" sandbag.
Both sizes have 1600 hours of UV protection and can be used for a variety of purposes, including earthbag home building and filling the bags up with coal and other materials and selling it by the bag.
Both have a hem top at the top of the bag. This means that there is sewing at the top of the bag so that the bags do not fray.
